Sharing your home with people is an age-old tradition that has evolved and moved into the modern age by booking accommodation through the click of a button. What hasn’t changed is our desire to make people feel welcome when they visit, and to share with guests the very best that our communities and homes have to offer.
Those same guests are increasingly looking for more sustainable options when choosing accommodation, as they make thoughtful and intentional decisions around where, when, and how to travel to lower their impact where possible, as research from National Geographic suggests. Hosts in Canada can respond to this increasing demand by taking steps to become more sustainable, and communicating their efforts to guests.
To support hosts in that journey, a Sustainable Hosting Pledge and Playbook have been developed for Canadian hosts. This free resource will guide hosts through practical steps to become more sustainable, both at their property and with their guest experience, across the following six topics:
Engaging your guests
Local Community & Culture
Nature & Wildlife
Energy
Water
Waste
Follow these three simple steps to get you started on your sustainable hosting journey:

Complete the form below to sign the Sustainable Hosting Pledge (your details will only be used for aggregated reporting purposes, for emailing you the sustainable hosting kit and communicating on updates to the Pledge Program).

I pledge to take action that improves the sustainability of my host accommodation.
I will strive for ongoing, continuous improvement to increase the positive impacts of hosting in my local community, economy, culture, and environment, while reducing any negative impacts.

![Sher Pichler - BC Before I was asked to be a part of the sustainability committee, my knowledge of what defined sustainability was very limited. I really didn’t see it as much more beyond the task of taking my ‘recyclables’ to the transfer station and sorting through tins and bottles etc. Through the process, I have learned that recycling is only a very small part of what sustainability means. I have become so much more aware of how I use things, what I buy and more importantly, re-using, re-purposing have become daily practices. So I guess you can say that the green light bulb went ‘on’ for me.](https://www.sustainablehosting.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/unnamed-e1700082143980-300x300.jpg)

Working with Jennifer, Sher and Karen on the Canadian Sustainability Committee was an incredible insight into the minds of other leading hosts and the steps hosts are taking to promote sustainable hosting. I like food, wine, travelling, profit and being silly.](https://www.sustainablehosting.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/unnamed-2-scaled-e1700082166784-300x300.jpg)
